Long ago, in 1848 to be exact, a Mrs. R. Speers suggested this town of the week's name for this developing land in Dane County. Speers had often heard her daddy belt out a 19th century tune with the beginning lyrics as follows: "On (town of the week) hill lives a lass..."

Remember when The historic Myers Theater in Janesville permanently closed in 1975?
When the Myers Theater opened 1870 it was the venue to see opera and closed in 1924. With the growth in popularity of film the theater was remodeled in 1929 and reopened as movie theater. started showing movies on December 27, 1929 The Myers Opera Theater was nominated for the National Register of Historic but ultimately met the fate of the wrecking ball in 1975 to make way for a bank.
